In Which I Update You With What’s Been Happening, And With What’s Going To Happen..!
*Stands Up*
“My names Marc Hemingway and for the past few weeks, I’ve been lazy.”
*Cat looks at me funny so I sit back down*
Me and Sarah went to New York in November and had a lovely time. We had five days and four nights of busyness and sightseeing and eating and it was great.
We did all the sights, Empire State Building (see above pic, view from it), Statue Of Liberty, Rockefeller, Central Park and everything in between. Also had a bit of a go on the subway!
(I won’t force you to see all the pics because this isn’t a travel blog, but if you want to they’re on my Instagram: Zepalm )
I was, as you’re thinking, signed up to a 10k run in Central Park while we were there. I recorded a DNS. (Did Not Start.) That’s because:
1. We were staying further from New York than we thought and so travel time was around an hour to an hour and a half, and:
2. It was CHUFFING FREEZING! Like minus 4 freezing! Plus wind chill brought it down a few more points so nope.
Anyway, since we’ve got home I’ve done very little in the way of exercise, if any! Any what with it being Christmas and everything I’ve over eaten and over drunken and over overed and have put a fair bit of weight back on which isn’t good!
So how do I get motivated? By entering this:
IRONMAN UK 2015
And here’s the proof:
2.4 mile swim
112 mile cycle
26.2 mile run
One after the other, no breaks, 17 hour time limit. (………oh shit!)
Training is 5/6 days a week with an average of 12-15hrs per week. Plenty to be getting on with!
My original plan was Ironman Lanzarote but I’m still not a great swimmer (only having learned how to swim last year) and Ironman UK is swum in a reservoir where as Lanza is in the sea. Plus, IMUK is a LOT closer to home!
Another factor is that Ironman Lanzarote is £380 entry but for IMUK I can (and have!) enter through a charity called Scope so it cost me £50, so long as I raise a minimum of £1000.

So there you go! That’s what I’ve been up to and that’s what I’m aiming for.
Can’t chuffing wait!

Ha! Ill keep that in mind…!
OMG! Well done you! I look forward to checking out your progress!
Thanks!!
Best of luck for your Ironman!
And (belated) Merry Christmas, and Happy new year to you 🙂
Thank you! And to you!!
Sounds familiar, very very familiar!!! I’m not the strongest swimmer and I signed up for IM Florida. At least I can train in the ocean here for practice! You’ll kick some arsk!!! Best to your training and feel free to pass along any key points you learn! 🙂
I’ll pass on all the mistakes I make for you to avoid 🙂
Well done Marc. I did IMUK this year and you are in for the experience of a life time. Good luck with the training. If I can help at all please shout.
Thanks! I’m excited for it. How was it?
It was incredible. I wrote about it in my blog here: http://peterwhent.wordpress.com/2014/07/23/ironman-uk-20-july-2014/
Excellent read! Reminds me how much I actually need to put it!
Pretty cool that your blog has garnered more than 100,000 views! It is something to look forward to for other bloggers! Keep up the good work, and good luck on your training!
Thank you!
Congrats on your blog milestones, and all the best as your train for your Ironman!!
Thank you! And thanks for the donation!!
Wow! That’s awesome!! Way to dive into the deep end (pun intended) with IM after taking time off. Can’t wait to track your progress and workouts. I’m training for Ironman Boulder (Colorado) Best of luck with training. Stay healthy.
Thanks! When’s IM Boulder?
Geeze, Marc, I’ve run in 0 degree F (-17C for you) weather! 😉 Of course, I shovel snow faster than my English husband as well. Good luck with the Ironman!
Ha ha!! We don’t really get stupidly cold weather like that! Should’ve zipped up my man suit!
Oh, and Marc. I’ll be doing my first Ultra, a 50K, on January 3rd. Check me out at Rite2Run, on WordPress, Twitter and Instagram
Will do!
Congrats on #100 Marc, and I can feel your excitement with registering for the Ironman UK Bolton 2015. You will conquer!
If I stick to my training plan I will!
Good luck! I think that IMUK has a brutal bike leg to make up for the easy swim. I just did my one and only IM (Wisconsin) which has a lake swim, but has a reputation of one of the toughest of all the IM bike courses (none of the hills are that bad, but they never stop and is a very technical course). I loved the experience and I am sure you will too!
Thanks!! Very giddy for it. Obviously not looking forward to the hard work, but I’ll get through it!
