In Which I Make A Motivational Poster
3 Weeks today until the British 10k in London.
17 Weeks today until the Yorkshire Marathon in York.
“But!” I hear you say, “You’ll be fine! After all, you’ve been eating healthy and not drinking beer!”
You’ll be disappointed in me when I say this…
I’ve not been eating healthy.
I HAVE been drinking beer…!
***SOB!***
That stops NOW. (Not NOW, because I’m planning on eating unhealthy and drinking beer tonight as one last night of excess before the seriousnessnessness of training starts.)
“How are you going to stay so motivated?” You ask.
AHA! I reply.
I made this to stick on my fridge!
I wouldn’t look at beer as the enemy. I still had a decent amount of beer the week before Chicago and still broke four hours! In the past 7 weeks I have lost 10 lbs without excluding beer from my diet. Eating slower and in smaller portions is the key. Also weighing yourself almost daily is a good way to keep weight down. Obsessive yes but it does work!
Beer is like a sandwich in a glass. I think your goal of not being a couch potato is good. I ran 4 half marathons last year–actually the 4th was me getting lost in Berlin on a morning run to the Brandenburg Gate and finally getting back to the hotel after 3 hours of running. This year I coached high school cross country and then long distance training for the spring track team. Next year I will do a marathon somewhere. Keep on truckin’
Thanks for the comment! I think I’d’ve ended up getting a taxi instead of carrying on running…!
I need a poster like this for chocolate, Maybe one for cheese as well. And cake. And cider (but only on sunny days).
And EVERYTHING that begins with ‘C’!
I thought the whole point of running is the post-run beer????
Yeah, but I can’t just have one. Or two…
After the marathon I’ll have quite a few!
maybe you should enter that beer/wine marathon in the south of France..its obligatory to run and run:) err sorry drink and run…so one would NEED to practice up till the event i would imagine:)
Ha ha! I’ve heard of that! It sounds great!
Love your fridge reminder! I think i might have to do something similar, but for chocolate rather than beer! 🙂
Seems to be working so far!
Oh, and one more thing: I had a pint of 7.4 beer the day before the Carlsbad Marathon. I had the BEST race EVER!!!!
For every 10 pounds, or I suppose 20kg, you’re ~ 1min/mile faster…….THERE’S an incentive for ya! Save the beer for after the race. It’s a GREAT carb/electrolyte replacer. Just make sure for every beer, you have a glass of water!
10 pounds is actually ~5kg, you made the conversion the wrong way 🙂
Normally for every beer I have another beer…
Looking forward to the post-marathon report.
I’m looking forward to the post-marathon beer…!
I love the poster!
I know what you mean though – when I have wine (I don’t drink beer) or junk food I just feel so sluggish the next morning. It’s bad enough I have to get up at 5:30am to beat the heat in the summer, but having to fight that feeling is even worse. Giving all that up is a small sacrifice which pays off in spades, though!
I figure it’s only for a few months, and I’d rather have a strong run after being tee-total than having a crappy run after drinking loads.
But what’s wrong with beer ? I had one in both London marathon and Reading half mid race.
Ha! Really? That’s impressive! It’s more the ‘whats wrong with loads of beer most days’…!
Got my laugh of the day 🙂
Will also have a 10K in 2 Weeks and a half marathon 10 days before yours. Keep up the motivation! And NO beer 😉
Thanks! Which 10k and 1/2 are you doing?
Local 10K race (Åsaloppet) 6/8 and then Malmö half marathon in South of Sweden 10/8 🙂
Local 10K on 6/7 and half marathon in Malmö (south of Sweden) on 10/8 🙂
Sweden sounds nicer than York!
But beer is a carb! Right??? Sorry, but I’m a Texan and beer is our water. I think you can still have an occasional (daily?) beer and not do too much damage to your training.
I can’t have an occasional beer, it turns into an occasional 5-6 beers a day! Tee-total is the way for a while!
That’s the kind of commitment I just can’t embrace…very impressed!
Thanks, hopefully I can…!
Noooooooooo
Only for a few weeks!
Ha!!!! I got a t shirt at my last Marathon that was a ladies medium. No joke, it fit my friend 4 yr old girl. It “fits” me, but it really shows off the girls if you will… so I have that tacked up over all my medals. LOL. Good Luck. As my coach says, “motivation will come and go” 😀 you can do it!!!
Thanks! I just got the t-shirts (TWO!) for the British 10k through my door yesterday, its the other way around. The large is MASSIVE!
I had a week like this last week! Back to it now. No beer and clean eating for me too 🙂 good luck
Thanks! So far, so good. (He says, after day 2…)
Haha!Great post!Great poster!
Hahah! this is really cute! Seriously, its not the beer or the unhealthy eating but the commitment to running. Once you’re committed to making the training, to be honest, beer and unhealthy eating in moderation is ok!! i find they actually motivate. Anyway, good luck! You’ll be ok!!
PS Im running so much so as to enjoy my cava in Spain. 🙂
I think it’s more the fact that after a night of beer, I never feel like running. Likewise with unhealthy food!
Telling myself it’s only for 17 weeks, then I can have plenty of each! 🙂
I’m sorta banking on this philosophy. Running first thing makes it hard for me to eat junk first thing which is one of downfalls. Likewise, if I know I have to run in the morning, it’s hard(er) to eat junk at night. So hopefully the commitment to the current training plan will pay off with nutrition as well!
